Does your organization use an OpenId Provider such as Microsoft Azure AD?
Or….
Would you like the person completing your form to be identified with their Google, Facebook or LinkedIn login with which they can later also edit their form?
Then the support of OpenID Connect by Formdesk could be very interesting for you.
What is it?
OpenID Connect, or OIDC for short, is a way of logging in (authenticating). Contrary to the regular method of using a specific username and password for an application, OIDC uses a similar way of logging in for different applications. The authentication is outsourced by Formdesk to an OpenID Provider (IdP).
Where in Formdesk is this supported?
OIDC is supported in Formdesk for both users of a Formdesk account and for those who fill out (login) forms.
What are the advantages?
There are 3 main arguments for using OIDC:
- Convenience for the user
- User management
- Security
Convenience for the user
- Users of the Formdesk account can log in with their known and trusted password and do not have to look up or remember their Formdesk password
- Users of the Formdesk account do not even have to log in if they are already logged in at their workplace, depending on the configuration of the OIDC link. We call this Single Signon (SSO)
- Visitors to a login form do not need to remember a password that is specific to the Formdesk form.
- Visitors to a login form do not have to fill in the known personal details every time.
- Visitors to a login form can edit previously completed forms without creating a visitor account. They appear directly in the form or in an overview of completed forms.
User management (IAM)
- Employees who leave employment will be put inactive in the IdP system and therefore automatically no longer have access to the Formdesk account or the login forms
- Employees can be denied access to Formdesk centrally
- Employees can be granted access rights to Formdesk within the IdP system and thus be automatically created within Formdesk
Security
- The internal policy with regard to the security of the authentication is automatically complied with
- No risk of reusing passwords for different SaaS products
